One of the yarns that I got in a mystery box from Lion Brand Yarn was Shawl in a Ball

Shawl in a Ball

I got a lot of it (9 skeins) in Graceful Green. It is a very pretty yarn but I wasn’t sure what to make with it since I had never made a shawl before so it just sat there for a bit, not being used. When it was getting close to my mom’s birthday I decided I would use it to make her something. The colorway is gorgeous and would definitely look good with red hair. The earthy tones and the gold sparkle, are just perfect.

I opted to go with a simple shawl design that could double as a scarf. I love a half double crochet stitch so that is what I did. I didn’t want to do anything overly ornate but I also didn’t want it to be boring, so this is the perfect stitch. Since she lives in Arizona I didn’t want to make her something that would be too warm so it was just airy enough to be something she could enjoy year round, whether she is bundled up or going out for a nice date night.

While it was late for her birthday (I am historically bad at getting things in the mail on time, I’m working on it!) I hope it is something she will enjoy for years to come.

This is going to be the first in a series that I have planned called Riding in Cars with Yarn. It will consist of projects that I complete primarily on car rides. So this scarf/shawl for example was completely crocheted in the car and the only thing I did at home was cut off the ends. I enjoy using my time in the car to get some projects done since I always have multiple projects going at once and it gives me a chance to actually finish things.
